FAQ

Does trimming reduce the quality?

Not by default. The video packets are copied across untouched, so what you get is bit-for-bit the same picture as the original, just shorter. Only the "exact frame" option re-encodes, and that is the one case where a little quality is spent.

Why does my clip start slightly before the mark I set?

Video is stored as occasional complete frames — keyframes — followed by frames that only describe what changed. A cut can only start on a keyframe unless the video is rebuilt, so by default the clip begins at the keyframe just before your mark. Tick "cut at the exact frame" to land precisely.

Is there a length or size limit?

None that we impose. Everything happens on your machine, so the practical limit is your own memory. Very long files are best trimmed in a desktop app.

Can I cut out the middle and keep both ends?

Not in one pass — this tool takes a single continuous slice. Run it twice and join the pieces in an editor if you need that.

Is my video uploaded anywhere?

No. It is read directly from your disk by the browser and never sent anywhere, which is also why the trim starts instantly instead of waiting on an upload.
